Dr. Adam John Privitera is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Wenzhou-Kean University in the Chinese Mainland. He earned his PhD from the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Chair Professor Brendan Weekes. Adam's research focuses on how differences in language experience such as bilingualism and bidialectalism influence cognitive processes ranging from executive function to decision-making. Additionally, he investigates how findings from the cognitive and neural sciences can be applied to educational practice and policy. He is on the editorial board for Trends in Neuroscience and Education and reviews for a wide range of SCI/SSCI indexed journals including The International Journal of Bilingualism and The American Journal of Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementias.
There continues to be great interest in the investigation of how language experience influences brain structure and function. An ever-increasing number of studies have explored these topics across linguistically, culturally, and developmentally diverse populations around the globe. This course will introduce participants to a range of findings from the cognitive and neural science focused on the central question: "how does language influence us?".
